Donald Trump physical exam results: President in 'excellent health,' doctor says

Donald Trump medical exam

In this photo released by the White House on January 12, 2018, Donald Trump walks with doctors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after his first physical exam as president.

The examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre lasted several hours and was likely to measure things like Trump's blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, heart rate and weight.

"I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday", Jackson said in a statement.

Jackson, a Navy rear admiral, directs the White House medical unit and has worked as a White House physician since 2006.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, he published a letter from his long-term doctor Harold Bornstein that stated he was in "excellent physical health".

Trump has claimed his physical health has always been strong. "I'll be very surprised if it doesn't", Trump told reporters on Thursday.

Psychiatric exams are not part of presidential physicals, but Trump aides have insisted that Trump doesn't need one.

GETTY TURNING POINT Donald Trump's first physical exam could be a major event

President Donald Trump's physician on Friday declared him in "excellent health" after his first known physical checkup since his inauguration almost one year ago.

No, the exam will not evaluate Trump's mental health.

Trump's father, Fred, developed Alzheimer's in his 80s, a fact that has prompted calls for the president to undergo a significant neurological exam.

Do presidents have to have a physical while they are in office?

Nearly always, the physician conducting the exam makes a general assessment of the President's health, and declares him fit to serve in the office.

Subsequently Bornstein revealed that Trump was prescribed a statin for high cholesterol, takes a daily baby aspirin for heart health, an occasional antibiotic for the skin condition rosacea, and finasteride pills that promote hair growth. "So everyone wants to keep him in, they want to silence the doctor", Dr. Connie Mariano, who served as White House physician for Bush and Clinton, told CNN in 2015.

"All clinical data indicates that the President is now very healthy and that he will remain so for the duration of his Presidency", Jackson wrote in his description of President Barack Obama's final physical exam, in 2016.
