Hawaii Says No Missile Threat After Emergency Alert Mistakenly Sent

At 8:07 a.m., an emergency alert blared on the cell phones of thousands of islands residents.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency's administrator, Vern Miyagi, said he took responsibility for the mistake. "I am working to get to the bottom of this so we can prevent an error of this type in the future." said Ige in a statement.

When an emergency alert was sent to mobile phones state-wide in the U.S. state of Hawaii on Saturday, warning an impending ballistic missile, a panic ensued for 38 minutes before the authorities retracted the warning as an error.

Charles Howell III was among players staying at the Kahala Hotel on the golf course.

While the procedure for cancellation is complex, the same could not be said about the process of triggering the alarm, as it could be done by one employee in charge of the fateful "button".

He says that got everyone's attention, but they didn't know what to do.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced that it was initiating a full probe into the incident.

Last year, North Korea lobbed two ballistic missiles over Hokkaido, stoking concern in Japan and prompting the nation's J-Alert system to immediately kick in with text messages to every mobile phone in some areas and TV updates.

Saiki says the system Hawaii residents have been told to rely on failed miserably.

Officials in Hawaii have spent months briefing the public on what action to take in the event of an attack.

"Clearly, government agencies are not prepared and lack the capacity to deal with emergency situations".

USA issues new travel advisory to its citizens for Pakistan, India
Americans are also advised not to travel to Pak-Occupied Kashmir due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict. It urges travelers to stay away from the states of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas (all level 4 ).

"NO missile threat to Hawaii", the agency said in a tweet that was retweeted by the governor, David Ige four minutes later. Most of Hawaii got the same frightening emergency alert.

"I was in a taxi when the warning came, and, to be honest, I was pretty calm since in Japan, I've had plenty of experiences with alarms going off", Shiomi said. The alert also warned that "this is not a drill".

The White House said President Trump was briefed on the alert but dismissed it as "purely a state exercise".

Parts of Hawaii woke up Saturday to an emergency alert: "BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII".

Australia's March Leishman - a three-time PGA Tour victor - said: "It's an interesting feeling, isn't it? It was user error", Rapoza said.

Schatz went on his Twitter account after emergency management officials confirmed the push alert about an incoming missile Saturday was a mistake, calling for accountability and an alert process that is foolproof. The message also told people to seek shelter right away - and that it was not a drill.

But despite the widespread panic, a number of Japanese tourists and residents of the island state interviewed by The Japan Times voiced a more composed reaction to the false alarm.

NO missile threat to Hawaii.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, confirmed the false alarm on Twitter 12 minutes after the errant message was sent.

"The false missile warning that took place at 8:07 Saturday morning can not be repeated as it caused extreme anxiety and concern for our local residents and visitors, and the country as a whole".
