India's stubbornness hampered proceedings of Mumbai attacks case: Nisar

Army suggests NSC meeting to discuss'misleading statement

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said Pakistan's ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif's public acknowledgement that militant organisations were active in his country was a "serious disclosure" and said it proved India's position that the handlers of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack were in Pakistan.

In an interview with a Pakistani daily, Sharif questioned the country's policy to allow the "non-state actors" to cross the border and "kill" people in Mumbai. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? "Explain it to me", he asked, in a clear reference to the Mumbai killings blamed on 10 Pakistani terrorists. "Why can't we complete the trial?" he said in an interview.

"Militant organisations are active".

Rehman warned that such reckless statements inflict damage on Pakistan's narrative while apprising at the same time that country has tendered unrivalled sacrifices in war on terror.

In an apparent effort to bring pressure on state's security apparatus as well as the judiciary, he even overlooked the fact that despite repeated requests from Pakistan, India never provided any proof against the Pakistani citizens whom it alleged of being the mastermind and planners of the attack.

"Pakistan was heavily criticised over the Mumbai attacks", he shared in a statement while referring to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's remarks on the Mumbai attacks. Afghanistans narrative is being accepted, but ours is not. He said he could not accept such non-serious statement from a person who served thrice as prime minister of Pakistan.

"But we expect that the government will do it now and ensure that the worldwide community takes notice of what Sharif has said and take appropriate action against Pakistan, he said".

But already Sharif's interview has been created a huge controversy in Pakistan. "PPP rejects Nawaz Sharif's statement and stance (on Mumbai attacks)". He claimed that although Pakistan had cooperated with the Indian government for information-sharing regarding every terrorist incident, India had not reciprocated for incidents taking place inside Pakistan, including the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

In January 2016, the government contacted New Delhi, asking it to send the 24 witnesses to Pakistan to testify against the Mumbai attacks suspects, including the alleged mastermind of the attacks - Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

"I am fully cognizant of the complete phases of the Mumbai attacks case".

The trials related to the attack continue to be stalled in a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court.
